April/May 2020

We’re well and truly into 2020 now, and although it’s been a shaky start so far with the outbreak of the Coronavirus, I’ve been well and truly buoyed by the ‘keep calm and carry on’ nature of our wonderful wedding industry. At the time of writing, precautionary measures are in discussion, however, the show must go on, and like all adversity, ‘this too shall pass.’ So, in that vein, let’s look to a bright future and keep planning your special occasion! Spring is hands down my favourite time of year – maybe it’s because of the sunshine, the beautiful flowers in bloom or the longer evenings – either way, I’m so excited!

This issue is full of inspiration that will make the planning of your big day much easier, if you’re having any wedding worries then definitely check out our hot topic feature where you’ll find expert advice. We’re always on the lookout for any changes to the world of weddings and if you want to keep up-to-date with all the goings-on from around the region, then our nearlywed news feature is a few page turns away.

We’ve also scouted the area for some of the best venues throughout the East Midlands, so if you’re at the beginning of your wedding journey make sure to check it out. And finally, discover our music and entertainment feature and learn different ways to keep the party going all day, from magicians to caricature – there’s something for everyone!

That’s all from me, now sit back, relax and celebrate anything and everything wedding!

The Old Vicarage Elkesley

Situated in Nottinghamshire, The Old Vicarage At Elkesley was built at the foot of exposure of 500 million-year-old sandstone and occupies what must be one of the most idyllic private and sheltered positions in this locality.

Approached by its coach road or by way of Park Lane, it’s set within five-acres of wooded grounds divided by the shallow River Poulter.

The venue has a beautiful oak hallway and doors bearing the trademark of Mousey Thompson, the famous Yorkshire woodcarver, which leads into the Osbourne Suite. This is a ceremony room that holds 60 seated guests, boasting a magnificent marble fireplace, deep cornices and oak doors. Alternatively, say ‘I do’ in the Pergola that’s located deep in the forest and overlooks the shallow banks of the River Poulter. This space can be lit by candles, lanterns or lamps to create a romantic atmosphere and set the mood for the special day.

Receptions can be arranged in the marquees, tipis or yurts with different furniture to choose from such as chairs, benches or hay bales, different tables and more. This allows couples to make this space their own and fit with any theme.

All electrics are organised and checked before the day and heaters can be used to ensure warmth, even in the coldest of weather.

If the bride and groom wish to have a glamping wedding, they can either hire a village from a separate supplier or bring their campervans or tents for a nominal fee. The couple can also book the log cabin as a bridal suite and there’s also a 17th-century coach house that can be used.
