June/July 2022

Hello lovely readers, and welcome to another issue of Your East Midlands Wedding. It’s finally summer, my favourite time of year, and I’m really enjoying the warmer temperatures and sunny skies. There’s something so refreshing about the time of year, I have so much more energy and there’s even more to do. I personally love the brighter evenings and venturing outdoors more in the garden and enjoying family barbecues, beach days and picnics. This summer will be one of the best seasons we’ve had in a long while with weddings back in full swing. Plus, my best friend and colleague Melissa will be exchanging vows in July to the lovely Dave – I’m super excited! As a bridesmaid, there hasn’t been anything better than helping someone you care about plan such an important event. I’m so proud of what they have both achieved, and I know their day will be wonderful.

As we reach the busy wedding season, it’s great to see so many talented suppliers working hard to create dream events. This time of year is perfect for weddings, especially al fresco events, and the longer daylight means there’s no rush for taking memorable images – plus, I love a good golden-hour shot!

In this issue, we’ve focused on venue styling inspiration to help you transform any venue to match your chosen theme and colour scheme. It’s surprising how the smallest details can make such a difference! Our fashion and beauty features showcase advice from top suppliers to help you look your big-day best. We’ve got you covered from hair tips and make-up inspiration to top fashion advice.

As we reach our 50th issue, I’ve taken the time to flick through some of our most memorable issues – I’m so proud of what we have all achieved over the years! This region has so much to offer from talented suppliers, showstopping venues and inspirational couples. Here’s to the following 50 issues!

That’s all from me; now sit back, relax and celebrate anything and everything wedding.

Happy planning!

The Riding School

Situated upon 600 acres of incredible parkland, The Riding School is a charming red-brick barn located on the beautiful Calke Abbey estate on the Derbyshire and Leicestershire border.

The property is surrounded by buildings and quirky courtyards, perfect for formal shots with family and friends, while the manicured gardens boast borders full of colour and fragrance. The grand house is not to be missed with its Baroque exterior, this is the most beautiful place to stop for more formal portraits. In the gardens, couples will find an authentic auricula theatre that displays the most beautiful arrangements throughout the year. The magnificent Orangery with its floor-to-ceiling windows, domed-glass roof abundant with lush greenery and peeling paintwork provides the perfect botanical backdrop for photographs.

The venue boasts a wealth of historic and original features – couples are sure to fall in love with its rustic charm. Exposed oak beams line the ceiling while the bare brick walls and the original windows create the perfect blank canvas. A nice little touch is a rowing boat resting within the beams!

Elegant white draping separates the Riding School into three more intimate spaces with a fabulous bar and lounge area with comfy and cosy furnishings, a ceremony area and a beautiful space for wedding breakfasts with 160 people. With such a flexible location, couples can create traditional and formal soirée to more rustic laid-back affairs. Wedding breakfasts will be served by the experienced staff with expert chefs on hand to create bespoke menus.

Later in the day, the ceremony area converts into an incredible dancefloor for 260 partygoers. The evening guests will be given a warm welcome as they arrive to join the celebrations. The fully stocked bar will be open for all guests to enjoy a drink before cutting the cake, and the first dance lets everyone know it’s time to get the party started.
