February/March 2022

Hello lovely readers, and welcome to another issue of Your East Midlands Wedding. I hope you’ve started 2022 off with a bang and have already achieved any New Year’s resolutions. For me personally, my goals are to make quality time for loved ones while ensuring I leave enough time for myself – it’s about finding that right balance.

This year will be one of the most exciting wedding seasons so far, with many couples tying the knot, including my close friend who has given me the honour of being a bridesmaid at her wedding – how exciting! The countdown is certainly on, and July couldn’t come around quicker.

If you’re at the start of your planning journey, then you’ve come to the right place because we cover everything from fashion and beauty advice, wedding cakes, venues and more.

Suppliers have been working hard all around the region to help couples create their dream day. My advice for all nearlyweds would be to start wedding planning early to avoid disappointment. Book your favourite suppliers first because there’s nothing worse than finding out your dream companies are fully booked.

If you’re towards the end of your planning journey, we have the perfect features to help you add the finishing touches and help solve any last minute worries or problems.

Happy planning!

Tissington Hall

Nestled in the heart of the Peak District National Park, Tissington Hall is a beautiful location with countryside views. Francis FitzHerbert built the Grade II listed building, which features an imposing southern approach via a grand gateway followed by an avenue of lime trees.

While each space is picture-perfect, the gardens are the estate’s crown jewel with curated gardens, which are spectacular when in bloom.

Couples can exchange vows in The Main Hall surrounded by 100 guests. The space is cooling in the summer months, thanks to the stone walls and cosy in the winter with a roaring log fire. Alternatively, The East Drawing Room can host up to 50 guests and has dark-wood floors, a huge fireplace and soft furnishings that are perfect for intimate ceremonies. Lastly, The Arcade Terrace is ideal for summer weddings with 150 people if the sun is shining.

Drinks receptions take place in and around the hall and gardens, with guests having the opportunity to wander around the rooms in the hall and seek out their favourite books in the library.

Wedding breakfasts can occur in the recently renovated 18th-century Carriage House, perfect for intimate nuptials with light and airy spaces. Another option is The Arboretum Pavilion Marquee, which is nestled in the gardens and can accommodate wedding breakfasts and evening celebrations. With a fully stocked bar, plenty of room for a band or DJ and ample dancefloor space, it’s the ideal place to dance the night away.

Tissington Hall is a magical place that’s looked after by the dedicated team, who can guide couples throughout the planning experience.

Why leave the beautiful estate when there’s guest accommodation within the Tissington village?

Outdoor civil weddings and civil partnerships made permanent

Outdoor civil weddings and civil partnerships made permanent

One positive that came from Covid affecting the wedding industry, and trust us there are not many, was that it highlighted how archaic our weddings laws are in the UK and how badly they needed modernising to reflect couples' desires.Temporary legislation allowing outdoor civil weddings and partnerships to take place outside of a permanent structure such as a pagoda, has been in place since last summer. At the time it allowed Covid-secure weddings to go ahead, however, the move was so widely received that from April it will be a permanent change.
